Abstract:
Non-equilibrium statistical mechanics of many-body systems are conveniently
formulated in terms of quantum field theory. The arsenal of generating
functionals
and diagrammatic techniques are thereby employable. However, for many
purposes
the full theory entails too much information, and efficient
approximation schemes
are needed. In the talk I will discuss the merits of different levels of
description,
descending from quantum field theory all the way to the (quasi-)
classical
description of electron dynamics in electronic devices.
