Abstract:
Lene Vestergaard Hau and others have been able to slow light pulses
down to 'human' speeds and even to stop a light pulse. The pulse can
then be started again preserving its shape. Lukin and Fleischhauer
had previously theoretically described this possibility. An extension
of this theory to show that the pulse can be restarted, not only to
move in the original direction as in the previous theory, but
depending on the experimental setup, in any new direction. This may
open for additional applications, e.g. a serial to parallel converter
(demultiplexer).
