Random Matrices, Random Permutations and More

Abstract: Random matrices are a source of natural probability distributions and scaling limits. These probability distributions occur not only in random matrix matrix or other spectral problems, but also in apparently unrelated problems which have no clear spectral interpretation. Distributions associated with the largest eigenvalue have been shown in the last 6-7 years to occur in random permutations, random growth and random tilings. I will survey some of these recent developments.

Everybody is welcome!
