My name is Ulf von Barth and I have been a teacher and a researcher at Lund University for over thirty years. I will be your guide through this exciting adventure towards an ability to use state-of-the-art computer codes for the stated purpose. And I hope that we will also learn some interesting physics in the process.
Let me suggest that we start out with a first-names relation in order create an interactive atmosphere conducive to learning.
On these pages I will do my best to keep you up to date concerning the practical details of the course. I will also use these pages for distributing lecture notes in different formats as well as for handing out assignments. There is a small illustrative example below which I suggest that you try to solve already before my first lecture.

COURSE LITERATURE: There is no regular book
covering the material of the course (I am working on one) but you have to
rely on my lecture notes of which some are available in typewritten form and
some are available in handwritten form.

ASSIGNMENTS: The first assignment that I recommend everyone tries to solve until Monday 31, is an exercise in classical physics intended to demonstrate why atoms like to form molecules and solids. Assign-1
