Nuclear physics

It is the study of how the subatomic particles, neutron and protons, come together. The ensables formed are nuclei at the core of everything around us. Nuclear structure and reactions are the ways it is possible to understand these fundamental components of reality, using the language of quantum mechanics of many-body systems. The study of the atomic nuclei explores the role of the nuclear strong and weak interactions at low energy, and therefore the "ground state" of a large part of the universe.

Complex systems

It is a varied field of study, related to the use of non-linear equations to describe and understand complex systems. The most interesting complex system is the human society, movement and exploitation of resources has geographical and economical implication. It is possible to use the dynamics of self-organizing systems, to understand the breadth of civilizations. And model cities with maps, automata and agents.

Computer Vision

Reconstructing 3D environments from common pictures and videos is one of the fundamental steps towards realising augmented reality and automating transportation. This is known as the simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) problem. The efficiency of the algorithms is of paramount importance in order to implement the reconstruction on large scale environments at sub-cm precision. Algebraic methods and parallel computing can be used to enable new methods towards a new range of possible applications.
